Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder says he broke his right hand during his 11th round TKO loss to heavyweight champion Tyson Fury on Saturday night.
Wilder's co-manager Shelly Finkel says Wilder will get surgery on his right hand on Monday in Atlanta. He won't be able to train for 3 to 4 months. Finkel says, Wilder will return to action sometime in the spring or summer of 2022.
Finkel says Wilder's equilibrium was off during the fight too. After he got hit behind his ear, his balance was off, and he wasn't the same.
Fury (31-0-1, 22 KO's) knocked Wilder down three times in the fight before winning by TKO in the 11th. Fury wanted to give Wilder his respect after the fight, but Wilder didn't want to give Fury no respect after Fury's win. Fury said Wilder told him after the fight he has no respect for him, no love.
This was Wilder's second loss to Fury. Their first fight ended in a draw, despite Wilder knocked down Fury twice in the first fight.
Wilder (42-2-1, 41 KO's) said he gave Fury his respect and congratulated him on his win on Thursday on his Instagram.
" I would like to congratulate @gypsyking101 for his victory and thank you for the great historical memories that will last forever."
